The alarm goes off. Hit the snooze button. 15 minutes past there’s that stupid alarm again. Wipe my eyes to gain focus while turning the alarm off. Oh, look notifications from Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. Let me scroll and check these real quick. Dang that 30 minutes went quick. Let me go get in the shower, not without my music. Hop out the shower, it’s selfie time. OH CRAP, let me get out of here before I am late.

This may not be your typical morning or maybe you start way earlier so you’re not late. But I know some people who know this ritual sequence too well.

I’ve tried to break my habit down and it helps that I have terrible service at work. As a business owner I need social media to build and maintain my audience, but it is addictive. All social media can become a black hole we get sucked into, from YouTube to Twitter. So to limited our social media addiction I have been using apps or tools to post for you which frees up some of your time.

I’ve used Hootsuite to schedule post across many social media sites at once. Hubspot can be used to schedule post track emails and learn skills from their learning modules. I’ve also used Tweetdeck when I was in school to make Twitter posts on a regular occasion. There are many others such as IFTTT, Buffer, and Sprout.

If you are trying to unstick yourself from social media try adding things to your day like:

  • meditation
  • journaling
  • self-care options
  • yoga
  • or other hobbies.

And if your still having trouble do a social media detox a couple of hours at a time or days, if you can resist. You don’t have to do it cold turkey there’s an app for that. You can start with I’m only going to use social media 7 minutes out of 30 minutes or an hour a day. Here are some apps that help you limit your social media use:

  • Instant
  • Offtime
  • Breakfree
  • Flipd
  • Stay On Task

So can you break your social media/phone addiction? If you know any other ways to help with this addiction feel free to comment below.
